Using Video to Generate Leads and Increase Revenue

There’s something evolutionary about the power of video.

Our brains are wired to pay attention to things that move because in the past, it meant we could eat them, mate with them, or they could eat us! So we’re conditioned to watch motion – just turn on the TV and see how everyone’s attention drifts to it.

So video grabs your customers’ attention. Which means it’s a powerful tool in your marketing arsenal. Want to get people not just watching but responding to your videos? Utilise the ‘emotional triggers’ – the 13 reasons we do something when we’ve watched a video. Inform, amuse, entertain and engage your audience and you’ll generate leads and increase revenue
But where to start? Well, work out what you want video to do. Is it first-stage informing, increasing exposure and lead gen by targeting customers who’ve never heard of you? If so, put your video on YouTube (the world’s second largest search engine after Google) and make it engaging rather than ‘brand’ and ‘info’ heavy. At this stage you don’t want to scare people off, you want to pique their interest.  Interest them and they’ll go to your website – they can find out more there.
Or do you want to improve conversion rates from your website? Try an ‘about us,’  ‘product video’ or ‘service video’ on your website. You can put more info in these – customers are already on your site so you know they’re looking for something. So tell them more, tell them why they should buy from you in an engaging, informative way
Of the people viewing marketing-orientated videos (videos promoting a product or service), over 50% will take some sort of action after viewing a video and 12% will actually buy the product immediately. (Typically only 0.5% to 2% of visitors to a “text only” web site will end up purchasing a product.) (The Online publishers Association and Adweek, 2011)
And, if you’ve paid for a great video, use it! Put it your in emails where it’ll increase open and enquiry rates,
Video in email marketing has been shown to increase click-through rates by over 96%. (Implix 2010 Email Marketing Trends Survey)

Blog posts incorporating video attract 3 times as many inbound links as blog posts without video. (SEOmoz, October 2009)
